Our Holiday Program provides Halloween Costumes, Thanksgiving Meals, Holiday Food, Children's Coats and Toys.
Our Holiday Program runs throughout October, November and December. We want our clients and their families to share in the joy of the season without risking their financial security. Everyone deserves the opportunity to join with their neighbors and make lasting memories during this special time.
Thanksgiving Day Meal Services
We serve more than 1,000 hearty Thanksgiving meals across community centers, senior centers and to our home-bound Mobile Meals recipients. All are prepared with love through donated foods and volunteer support. Due to Covid-19, we have adapted our previously dine-in service to a drive-thru distribution system.
Holiday Food Distributions
Samaritan House holds two large food distributions, one in November and one in December, so that our clients and their families can enjoy delicious food to celebrate the Holidays. Everything we give out is a donated item.
Through our Family Sharing Program, low-income families from San Mateo County are matched with donors, who “adopt” them in December. These donors provide client families with personalized holiday food and gifts. Donors are able to select the size of the family household they wish to donate to and are welcome to adopt more than one family or senior household to spread the holiday spirit.
Halloween Costumes for Kids
As trick-or-treating is a part of any childhood, we have made it our mission during the month of October to provide new costumes to low-income families free of charge through our Halloween Costume Drives. Unfortunately, our annual Halloween Costume Drive was put on on hold in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We look forward to continuing this important tradition when it’s safe to do so.
20,284 Gifts, coats, toys, and books distributed to children and teens last year.
