Donating from Your IRA
Your generosity enables Samaritan House to provide essential services to those in need. Supporting Samaritan House through a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) from your Individual Retirement Account (IRA) is a tax-efficient way to make a meaningful impact.
Your donation not only helps us provide necessities including food, shelter, clothing, and healthcare, it helps us give people hope. We provide services and resources to more than 29,000 San Mateo County residents in need each year, including families with children, seniors and individuals living with a disability, veterans and homeless adults.
What is a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD)?
A QCD allows individuals aged 70½ or older to transfer up to $105,000 per year directly from their IRA to a qualified charity, like Samaritan House, without counting the distribution as taxable income.
Benefits of Making a QCD to Samaritan House
- Tax Advantages: By excluding the donated amount from your taxable income, you may lower your overall tax liability.
- Satisfy Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs): If you’re 73 or older, QCDs can count toward your RMDs for the year, providing a tax-efficient way to fulfill this requirement.
