Our neighbors can't afford to wait.
Due to the government shutdown and disruptions to SNAP benefits, many neighbors in our community will miss meals this November.
Ways to Help:
- Donate Funds
- Every $1 donated creates 4 meals for a hungry neighbor.
- Stock Our Shelves
- Purchase an item our neighbors need most
- Run a drive
- Drop-off items between Monday-Friday, 3-4:45pm
- Drop-off location: Samaritan House Headquarters, 4031 Pacific Blvd, San Mateo
- Volunteer
A delay in SNAP benefits, a declined EBT card, a paused paycheck can all mean empty plates on the dinner table when local families sit down to eat. Currently, 35,000 San Mateo County residents are unsure whether their CalFresh assistance will come through this month. 11,000 of them are children. Thousands of federal workers have gone more than a month without pay.
Due to the federal government shutdown, disruption to SNAP benefits, and added economic stress of massive local layoffs, Samaritan House anticipates 25 to 30% more families will turn to Samaritan House for food. We are planning for the worst and hoping for the best.
But hope doesn’t fill pantries, preparation does. Will you help us meet the needs of our neighbors during these destabilizing times? If you want to make a difference, this is the moment: join us to help families in need.
How we’re feeding our community
- We cook and distribute 1,300 home-cooked meals a day.
- We save more than 7,000 families nearly $3,000, each year by providing free, nutritious groceries.
- This Thanksgiving, we will ensure nearly 4,000 people have the holiday staples they need to feed their families and celebrate the holidays with joy.
