Samaritan House strives to involve schools and students in learning about poverty and homelessness through empathy-building and community service. We find it difficult to host groups of school kids as volunteers. Instead for larger groups or classes we promote fantastic support by running drives for essential items that we give to our clients. We also have help from schools who hold fundraisers which help to fund our programs. If you get involved with us, where possible we try to include a tour of our facilities to give context information about Samaritan House and our services.

If you are interested in Student Community Service, there is a commitment to us of at least 20 hours over the school year. We do not offer one-off volunteering opportunities for service hours. Often, helping us to get all the donations we need, has a bigger impact than physical volunteering and we will give credit for that commitment.

Just a quick reminder about our policy on youth volunteering. Under 12’s can not volunteer on site with us but are welcome to support us from home or at school. Students can volunteer if they are 12 and accompanied by a parent.  Students who are 16 or 17 can volunteer by themselves if a parent signed Minor Waiver Consent Form is provided to us. Under 18s are not permitted to serve in our Clinics or Safe Harbor Homeless Shelter.
