This grant will support Samaritan House\u2019s mission to mobilize the resources of our community to help those among us who are in need.<\/p><p>\u201cPHCD is proud to provide financial support for the 2017 community grant recipients as they work tirelessly to provide services that improve the health and wellness of District residents and empower our community with their impactful, innovative programs,\u201d said PHCD Board Chair Lawrence Cappel, Ph.D.<\/p><p>At the ninth annual Community Partners Awards Ceremony on February 1, 2017, PHCD awarded the 2017 grants to 30 local organizations. In addition, each organization had an opportunity to recognize a key volunteer who helps support their mission and makes a significant contribution to the community.<\/p><p>Samaritan House recognized Dr. Sophie Cole for her volunteer service at our San Mateo Free Clinic providing quality healthcare to our neighbors in need.<br \/>\u201cDr. Sophie Cole has been volunteering steadily at the Samaritan House San Mateo Free Clinic for over 17 years and is a superb physician. She cares deeply about the patients and the community. She is very active in our community with a variety of causes. In addition to providing direct care to our patients, Dr. Cole serves an active role on our Board of Directors and on our Clinical Advisory Committee. She is a voice for healthcare in the underserved communities.\u201d \u2013 Jason Wong, M.D., Samaritan House Medical Director<\/p><p>Every year, PHCD awards grants to local organizations that address local health priorities and help carry out the vision of the District. Community Grant recipients are chosen based on a review of local health care needs and the evolving priorities of District communities. In 2017, Samaritan House is one of 30 local organizations to receive a grant from PHCD, a community investment of $2 million.
